Our Caricature Work-in-Progress

I saw a post in which an acquaintance uploaded an amazing caricature of himself, and to be honest, it was such a clear likeness I thought it must be a manipulation of a photo. Having requested some information I found out that it was in fact a caricature drawn by the talented Dayle Smith, who is the husband of an old army colleague of mine.

So I decided a caricature celebrating Rugby and I’s Appalachian Trail adventure might be a nice memento, and glad to say Dayle agreed. I sent him some images from our hike and requested the Katahdin sign be included and in the background I wanted Momma K herself.

As can be seen the likeness is uncanny and he captured the spirit of the event perfectly. Looking at Rugby’s face just makes me smile as its a perfect likeness of the person I saw daily on the hike. Even the blue ear bugs hanging from his chest strap!

I contacted Dayle after the caricature and requested if I could include a work-in-progress images on my blog and he agreed. So here you can see some of the stages taken to complete the drawing. I have had the caricature printed and it will be mounted in a frame as a constant reminder of the lighter side of the whole adventure.
