Bearded Woods Bunk and Dine

Bearded Woods is not a hostel in the usual trail sense of the term; hence its named a "Bunk and Dine". Hudson, a 2014 AT Thru-hiker and previous section hiker covered his basement into a living area for hikers. Its is beautiful, functional and more important, welcoming. BIG Lu, his wife, cooks amazing food for dinner and breakfast and, if like us, you take advantage of slack-packing the Taconic Range, you even get lunch thrown it! Hudson is extremely knowledgeable about the AT and also the area surrounding their home in Connecticut. BIG Lu assisted use arranging a Trailcation to New York City while we stayed (there is a direct route train from Ct to Manhattan). Hudson provided shuttle services and slack packing options. Although looking at it the price is higher than a "hostel" its important to equate Bearded Woods more along the lines of a guest house with dinning experience. Hikers are accommodated in a completely remodeled basement, with exceptionally clean facilities, brand new toilet/shower and solid beds. A large screen cable TV is in the basement and some DVDs are available. Laundry is done for you and returned dry and clean. A unique feature is the stair well holds Hudons collection of skulls and other collectables he found on his travels. Hudson and BIG Lu are extremely friendly and helpful and I am glad we decided to stay! Space is limited so book ahead of time. Website
