Green Mountain House Hostel

Green Mountain House is located just outside Manchester Center, from the trail its about a 5 mile hitch into town but pretty easy to get picked up. Jeff Taussig, the owner of Green Mountain House, will collect you from town after you have had a chance to eat and resupply. The house is set on its own land outside Manchester and is purposed as a hostel. Jeff lives in a smaller home next door so the house is totally for hiker use. It is newly remodeled and cleaner than a baby unit in a private hospital! The bathrooms (2 of them) are brand new and the stay includes soap, shampoo and towels. Laundry is available inside the house with large washer and dryer for hikers. There is a fully equipped kitchen and the stay even includes a free pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream (Vermont made of course), remember to buy food in town to cook at the hostel. There is wireless internet, a desktop, big wide screen TV, DVDs, cable and a very well furnished communal area. The bedrooms are neat, clean and have comfortable beds. Jeff offers slack pack options and we took an 18 or so mile opportunity back to the hostel. When we stayed (there were three Brits in the house) Jeff even flew a Union Flag (British flag) outside the house.....and the right way up!!! Website
