Kincora Hiking Hostel

The trail famous Kincora Hiking Hostel is a must stay....if for nothing else than to meet Bob Peoples; the legend himself. We arrived on a miserable weather day, tired and wet we hiked into Kincora. We was met by "Lumpy", Bob's assistant and shown around the hostel. Bob had the hostel built onto his home, its a rustic looking two story cottage with attached bathrooms and laundry room. Downstairs is a small kitchen, common room and a private bedroom. Upstairs is the bunk room of about 16 bunks. There is no TV, no internet and no cell phone reception. Bob gives rides into town for resupply but don't ask to be taken to McDonalds because you wont get there! There is free slack packing available over Pond Flats back to Kincora, which we took advantage on due to miserable weather. So what does Kincora offer? Bob Peoples for a start; he knows his section of the trail and will pass on all his knowledge for free. But also the whole hiker hostel experience, staying at Kincora was the best hostel stay I experienced because of the atmosphere. The weather had turned nasty and 27 hikers had made it to Bob's to shelter, the place was packed. But that made it so good, people were sleeping on the floor, sofa, chairs, doubled up on beds. The conversations of the past miles, including the Smokies, meant the place was buzzing. Its a definite stay for sure. Article about Bob Peoples
