Worth a Stay
Stay for sure before hitting the wilderness.
The Lakeshore House in Monson was a great place to stay just before starting the 100 Mile Wilderness. The owner Rebekah was a great host and very helpful. They collect you at the trail head and will drop you off post stay. We ate at the restaurant/bar at this part of the hostel and the food was great. There is a pie shop next door which served huge slabs of pie and also a garage/store for resupply. The hostel had wireless internet, laundry, showers with soap/towels, basic TV and good beds. It was very quiet when we stayed with mostly SOBO’s staying the night.
The house is on the edge of a lake and there are boats for use if you wish to zero and relax. We stayed one night and headed out as time was rushing by but it would of been great place to rest before 100 Mile Wilderness. They can arrange slack packing and resupply drops within the wilderness if needed.
Since we stayed in Monson it has been reported Shaw’s (the other hiker hostel in town) has closed.
