Nantahala Outdoor Center, Bryson City
I was very disappoint with the accommodation. If I was to hike this area again I would stealth camp or hitch to town.
The Nantahala Outdoor Center is a complete complex of outfitters, restaurant, store, white water rafting, zip-line etc. and accommodation. The Appalachian trail runs right through the center of the complex making stopping off very easy. We had been hiking in rain for a couple of days so all our gear was soaked through. Plus the chance of a hot meal and showers made the NOC a great place to stop. The accommodation was very very basic! Basically a shed with wooden bunk beds inside. There was no air-conditioning and the heat was a bar type system bolted to the wall. The rooms were extremely small and not really big enough to get our gear out to dry. I used the showers to hang my tent as that was warmer than the room. The showers were communal but good and plenty of hot water. There was a communal kitchen and dining area if you wanted to us that. Fortunately there was a bar/restaurant close by so we spent the evening there. There is no internet or computers to use. The laundry was away from the rooms and bit of a walk to get it done.
